Karmish, Zvi-Herbert


Zvi, son of Paula and Aryeh Karmish, was born in 1914 in Berlin, Germany. In the first years after Hitler’s rise to power, he was an encouraging force for many to have hope of returning to their country. After immigrating to Israel in 1937, he was active in the Haganah. When the car bombs exploded in the building of the National Institutions and on son of Yehuda Street he was among those that came to help the wounded. Zvi volunteered for the People’s Guard and afterward for the IDF. He fulfilled his duty faithfully until he was injured in his service. He struggled with his pain for two days and died in the hospital on the 5th of Sivan (12.6.1948). He left behind his wife, Lily, and their son, Amos. Zvi was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
