Kaplan, Ze’ev (Wawa)
Son of Genia and Joseph, was born on the 8th of Adar 5628 (November 8, 1928) in the city of Kaunas, Lithuania. In 1937, at the age of 9, he immigrated to Israel. He studied at the “Haskalah” High School in Tel Aviv and after graduating from high school joined the Nutras. He served in the Notary Army for a year and when he was discharged he began to work in the Hagana’s Arab department, which he joined in 1942, and found great satisfaction in his service. He loved art, visited all theater shows and concerts, and his bookcase was full of art books. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he enlisted in the army and filled many positions in his battalion, both as a liaison and cultural activist, but demanded that his commanders, despite their opposition, move him to a combat unit. On the 13th of Tammuz 5708 (13.7.1948) he fell in battle for the 105th Regiment that was captured by the Egyptians and blocked the way to the Negev, after he managed to take the enemy’s booty from the enemy, and was later called the “Wolf Cannon.” – The military cemetery in Be’er Tuvia.
