Kalwari, Menashe (Emanuel)


Menashe (Emanuel), son of Ahuva and Aharon Kalwari, was born on 9.8.1929 in the city of Lignitz, Germany, and immigrated to Eretz Israel on March 6, 1939. He studied at the “Moriah” school in Tel Aviv and at the “Ahava” institution in Kiryat Motzki and took an agricultural course at the Mikve Israel school and learnt in the religious track. He saw the uniqueness of the Jewish people, but sought to adapt the tradition to the present. Menashe moved to the government’s experimental station in Acre and decided to join the nucleus of the moshav there and was drafted to the Gadna, but after a few months he asked to be transferred to Chish. Menashe served in the Oded Brigade and was sent to Malkia and fell there on 27 Iyar 5708, June 5, 1948 and on the 27th of Iyar, May 22, 1952 was transferred to the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
