Kalinsky, Meir (Meirka)


Son of Esther and Moshe. He was born on April 29, 1921 in Petach Tikva to a family with an agricultural farm, and grew up in an atmosphere of love for the country. As a child, he studied at the Netzach Yisrael elementary school, his heart was especially attracted to Bible stories, and among his friends he was known for his loyal, courageous, and humble manner. He heard about Avshalom Gissin and his friends who fell in the events of the defense of Petach Tikva. After completing his elementary studies, he moved to the Ahad Ha’am Gymnasium, where he excelled in his studies, during which time he began to train in the Maccabi Hatzair movement and was active in various sports. He enlisted in “Baps”, British units of the British infantry from which the Jewish Brigade was formed Dit (the Jewish Brigade). On 22 Tishrei, October 21, 1943, he traveled with soldiers from his unit to practice shooting in the south of the country. Near Gedera, their car collided with a Polish army car and four Jewish soldiers were killed, Meir among them. He was buried in the cemetery of his Petach Tikva settlement. His name was immortalized in the book “Ish B’Hayal”.
