Kalifa, Yaakov


Son of Mazal and Yosef was born on the 11th of Kislev 5728 (11.12.1927) in Jerusalem. He joined the Haganah and was active in its ranks. Jacob was an enthusiastic patriot and saw in his service his main role. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was already drafted. He participated in the battles in Neve Ya’akov and Atarot and was later sent with reinforcements to the besieged Gush Etzion and fought in Kfar Etzion, in the section of the monastery. On 12 May, the Legion and local Arabs carried out a heavy attack on the Gush and managed to locate it in two. The next day the attack continued and Kfar Etzion fell to the enemy. On this day, he fell on the 4th of Iyar 5708 (13.5.1948), and after his fall he was granted the rank of lieutenant On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest in a mass grave with the other victims of the Gush In, the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
