In the company he was known for his joie de vivre and his cheerfulness, and as soon as he entered the house, the house would be full of joy and light for the entire family. Yaakov was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-May 1969 and assigned to the Engineering Corps, and was very fond of his comrades in the unit and fulfilled all his duties in trust. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. The commander of the unit wrote to his parents in a letter of condolence: “Yaakov served in the unit from the first day of its establishment and we will all remember him as one of the most outstanding soldiers in the battalion. The line of the canal has a role that involved responsibility and personal initiative, and I was told that I express my deep sorrow and the sorrow of the entire unit for the loss of one of its most outstanding soldiers. “
