Kalchman, Yoel


The son of Hilda and Shimon, Yoel was born in Argentina on December 12, 1959. Yoel was a graduate of the paratrooper unit in compulsory service. After his release, he joined the ranks of the Border Police and joined the fighters of Company C. Yoel was a disciplined, highly motivated fighter, a born leader with excellent ability to express himself. Yoel was married to Ayala, and the couple lived in Karmiel, where they raised their daughter, Sivan. Yoel fell during his duty in Lebanon in the first Tsur disaster, on the morning of the 25th of Kislev 5743 (11.11.1982), during the Peace for Galilee War. An explosion took place in the building of the Israeli military administration in Tire. The building collapsed and about 100 people were killed, including seventy-six members of the Israeli security forces. Yoel was twenty-three when he fell. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Nahariya. Yoel was awarded the “Peace of the Galilee” Medal.
