Kakun, Shimon

Son of Mordechai and Hanina. He was born on 15.1.1928 in Casablanca, Morocco. He finished elementary school there. After that, in January 1949, he immigrated to Israel and was drafted into the IDF the following month and was able to participate in the War of Independence, and when called to reserve duty he went out and did not return, That on the first day of the battles, on the 5th of Iyar 5727 (5.6.1967), he fell in a battle in Maoz Zion (next to the Castel quarry) after being hit by a mortar shell before entering the attack, and left a wife and three children. The military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, and the commander of his unit wrote to his family in his condolence letter that Shimon had given up his soul “out of unmatched courage; Out of a sense of mission and purpose of truth “
