Kahlo, Gershon (Silvio)


He was born on April 12, 1924 in Rome, the capital of Italy, where he completed elementary and high school, and spent one year studying at the university and finishing his studies in order to immigrate to Eretz Israel. In March 1945 he moved to Kibbutz Gevim in the Negev, where he was one of its founders and member until the day he died, and Gershon was a member of the kibbutz and a member of the Haganah. He was among the fighters of the Negev settlements and his time divided between the work of the cowsheds in Gabi’im and Nir Am, and Gershon served in the Negev Brigade. With the aim of breaking through to the Negev, and his unit was assigned to conquer the strongholds of Julikat, the attacking force encountered better enemy forces and was forced to retreat, which fell on July 18, 1948. For a long time he was considered missing, “In the event of a disaster, I think it will be your duty to write to my mother and sister, but I hope that there will be no need for it.” On the 26th of Tammuz 5766 (26.6.1950), he was transferred to rest -In the military cemetery in Warburg.
