Kahane, Menashe
Son of Adina and Israel, was born on December 16, 1925 in Tel Aviv. After graduating from the “Tel Nordoi” elementary school, he studied at the Max Payne vocational school. Was a member of the Scouts movement and was accepted to the Haganah at the age of 15. After completing his studies at the vocational school, he worked for a time in the Ford garage. Menashe stopped his work and was drafted into the Palmach by the age of 17. He was caught by the British police with a weapon in his hand (at the time he served as Moshe Sharett’s bodyguard) and after a short period of imprisonment returned to his unit in the Palmach. Two years later, he moved to the reserve unit of the Palmach, and after completing a course he returned to active service in the Palmach (with the rank of commander), with the decision of the UN General Assembly on 29.11.1947 to divide the country into two states, In the bombing of the bridges (the Allenby Bridge) and escorting the convoys on the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem road. Afterward, Menashe was sent to the unit that kept the JNF house in Beit Dagon, on the way to Jerusalem, was injured while placing mines around the building and died of his wounds on 1 January 1948. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery In Nahalat Yitzhak.
