Kaftash, Tzvi


Son of Esther and Yosef, was born on January 31, 1931 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, and lived with his family in the city of Portumla, Hungary. With the capture of Hungary his mother was murdered by the Nazis. Zvi immigrated to Israel in 1941 as part of Youth Aliyah and lived in a cramped room with his father and sister in David’s home in Hadera. He studied diligently at the elementary school, was sharp-witted and quick-grasped and had a command in Hungarian, English, Hebrew and Arabic. In 1950 he completed elementary school and began to work in order to help his family, but he was not tired of any work in the field, in the fields, in the vineyard, in the orchard and in the orchard. When the War of Independence broke out at the age of 17, he enlisted as a driver and became fond of his friends. Zvi participated in the “Nachshon” activities, was the one who broke the siege of Jerusalem, and later volunteered for the 8th Battalion’s raid regiment. He was killed in the bombing of the bus station in Tel Aviv on the 9th of Iyar 5708 (18.5.1948) He was brought to eternal rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
