Kadosh, Moshe

Moshe was born on August 31, 1962 in Jerusalem. His family moved to Holon, where Moshe studied at the Yeshurun elementary school and at Yavneh High School. In his free time, Moshe volunteered to help children from families living in distress, not only to provide them with knowledge, but also to educate them. He used to say: “A man without a way of life is like a man without clothing.” Moshe practiced various sports for self-defense, Krav Maga, karate and judo. In August 1981, Moshe enlisted in the IDF. He underwent basic training and a communications course, and served in the Armored Corps. His commanders noted at the end of his training: “He is an excellent soldier, disciplined, highly motivated.” On 22 Av, August 11, 1982, his unit fought in the Museum area in Beirut. When one of his comrades was wounded in the battle, Moshe felt compelled to help him. He came to him with his medical kit, and in the process he himself was hit by enemy fire and killed. He was 20 years old when he died. After being killed, Moshe was promoted to corporal, and Defense Minister Ariel Sharon wrote to his family: “Corporal Moshe Kadosh gave his life for his homeland. He fell in Operation Peace for the Galilee in Beirut, Lebanon, near the museum, while helping a wounded soldier. He served in the Signal Corps, was a modest soldier, accepted and loved by all his comrades in the unit. He was a volunteer and was ready for every mission.” The commander of his unit wrote: “Throughout his career in the unit, Moshe’s positive traits stood out, showing diligence, loyalty, professional knowledge and dedication to the goal. He was always ready to go out and serve with the front line personnel, and to contribute his talents and knowledge to the unit. He also fell when he went out to help a friend who was wounded during the shelling, with his own self-endangerment. He ran to bring the wounded first aid box, and when the wounded man fell, Moshe fell. Moshe was loved by his comrades in the company, and we, commanders and soldiers alike, remember his image and carry his memory as a symbol and example.” Moshe was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Holon. He left his parents and two brothers.
