Jacobson, Baruch
Son of Frieda and Mendel. He was born on March 16, 1916 in Riga, Latvia. The broad, sturdy boy joined the Hashomer Hatza’ir movement in Riga and immediately became prominent in his singing talent. In 1934, he went to agricultural training at a farm in Yogala, where he devoted himself to work with enthusiasm and easily overcame all the obstacles that stood in his way, and in a short time he became the secretary of the training commune. After a nine-month stay at the site, he returned to educational work at several branches of the movement, and in 1937 he moved to Eretz Israel, where he continued to be active in youth and soon became one of the pillars of the Anglo-Baltic nucleus in Afikim. On 22 Iyar, May 18, 1941, they embarked on their mission in the “Ari the Sea” boat, but the operation was not carried out and its people did not return to their base. No one knows what happened to them to this day. A monument in memory of the 23 Yordei HaSira is located on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem and the School for Marine Officers in Acre is named after them.
