Jacob, Israel (“Srulik”)
Son of Moshe and Sarah. He was born in 1945 in Iraq and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1950. Israel began his elementary studies in Pardes Hannah, but after a year his parents put him in a yeshiva because of their difficult economic situation. After graduating from elementary school, he went to study at the “Mevo’ot Yam” maritime school, but the family situation worsened and he was forced to return to his home to help his father support the family. A week at the “Neurim” school in Netanya, and during his work at the Ytong he received a meager salary and then decided to leave the job Israel went to the army in early August 1963 and volunteered to serve in the army, but he refused to accept his studies, in the Navy. His colleagues knew about his family situation and hoped that when he finished his regular service, he would return to work in the factory, but Israel did not want to leave the army and joined the army in early February 1966. His parents objected, but he said: “If not me – who?” During his vacations he sought and found work so as not to waste his time. During his army service, he knew who was to become his wife and decided to marry her. While serving in the regular army he saved little money for the wedding expenses. After the wedding ceremony he informed the parents that he was being transferred from Haifa to the base in Eilat. On the day of his service, he attained the rank of sergeant, and on the 17th of Shevat 5702 (24.1.1970), he fell while carrying out his mission to rescue the Ammunition Truck in Eilat and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Pardes Hannah.
