Ivgy, Gabriel

Gabriel (Gabi), son of Hannah and Abraham, was born on September 18, 1952 in Rabat, Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1955. Gabriel was drafted into the IDF in early February 1970 and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade. He took part in a raid across the Lebanese border and in the Mardafim and in the strongholds on the banks of the Suez Canal. He was a good soldier and devoted to his job, did not complain about the hard and arduous training and his mood was always high. His commanders gave him the “Operational Service Award” for his participation in extensive operational activity. After he was discharged from regular service, he worked with his brother in assembling irrigation systems, in order to save money for traveling abroad. About two weeks before the Yom Kippur War broke out, he was called up for reserve duty and was stationed in the Gaza Strip. When the war broke out, he asked to join his unit from the period of his regular service, which fought on the front in the Golan Heights. On October 17, 1973, during an operation near the West Junction, he was killed when his half-track was overturned and he was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Migdal Haemek, leaving behind a father, mother, three brothers and a sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
