Itzikson, Yaakov-Kopel (Jacoba)


The only son of his parents Atta-Leah and Helman-Aryeh was born on 4 Tishrai, September 28, 1929 in Tel Aviv. Yaakov volunteered as a municipal lifeguard and rescued bathers from drowning. Later he worked as a clerk in the municipal inspector’s office. Yaakov Kopel joined the Nutras and at the outbreak of the War of Independence he was sent to the Upper Galilee, where he participated in many guard and defense operations and in the first attack on the police fortress at Nabi Yosha which controlled the intersection of the northern road, from the evacuation of the British from the area was handed over to the Arabs on 15.4.1948. The next day, a combined force of the Oded and Yiftach brigades took out armored buses to take over the police. In front of the entrance to the police, the vehicle was opened fire upon, several fighters were injured and the force withdrew. In this battle, Yaakov fell on the 7th of Nisan 5708, April 16, 1948 and was buried in Ayelet Hashachar on 27th of Elul, September 29, 1949, and was transferred to the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
