Itzhaki, Uri


Son of Aharon and Doris. Born in Tel Aviv on December 30, 1957, he began his studies at the Henrietta Szold Elementary School for Girls and graduated from the high school in Tel Aviv. He was an excellent student, quiet and diligent, and his seriousness attracted all his acquaintances. During his studies, he was a member of the Gadna and was a partner in all the trips and trips: Uri was handsome and tall (1.98 m.) At the age of twelve Uri began to play basketball, first playing with the children’s group, Aviv, and after a long way he went to play in the Hapoel team – the basketball coach Yitzhak Hochman, who fell in the Yom Kippur War, and who encouraged Uri in his game, added to his ability. Uri quickly became the inside of the team and his precise shots saved his team from losses. The sports magazines of the time mention Uri’s game of praise. Uri also took a prominent place in the school team, both in his game of praise and in his authoritative and radiant personality, which the other players followed. Uri was drafted into the IDF in mid-August 1976 and assigned to the Artillery Corps, and in his first and only letter from the army’s recruits base, he managed to tell his parents how much he had become accustomed to half his comrades and how proud he was to wear a uniform. 5727 (27.1.1977) fell during his service. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and two brothers. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “In the short period of time we met Uri, we were all impressed by his ability and his desire to serve the country with love. To commemorate his memory, his parents installed a special ‘sports board’ in his high school.
