Itkin, Yisrael (Rulic)


Yisrael, son of Chana and Hillel-Tzvi Itkin, was born in 1901, in Berezin, Russia. In the summer of 1924 he immigrated to Israel from Lithuania. At first he worked in Sejera as a night watchman, was appointed secretary of the village committee, and later began working as an engineer in the development of Haifa Bay. During the Second World War, he served for two years in the “Palestinian Volunteer Corps” whose job was to maintain security in Haifa and the surrounding area. During the War of Independence, he served in the Carmeli-Hadari unit and dealt with fortifications. On the 17th of Adar I 5708 (27.2.1948) he fell while fulfilling his duties in the German Colony in Haifa and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kfar Ata. He left behind his wife and four children.
