Itach, Jojo


Son of Yaakov and Penny. He was born on November 23, 1953, in Casablanca, Morocco, and began to attend elementary school there. After immigrating to Israel with his family in 1964, he continued to study at the Mesilot school in Netanya. After that he studied carpentry at ORT Netanya for two years and two years at the Neurim Institute. Jeju was handsome and kind. He was a good student, involved in social life and accepted by teachers and students. His teacher at the Mesilot School remembers him as a brilliant student, pure hearted, quiet, disciplined, modest, pleasant, and comfortable to his teachers, friends and parents, while his educator at the Neurim Institute describes him as intelligent and sympathetic. According to him, Joseph (Jojo) showed great interest in studies and a great desire to move forward. He participated in all the activities of his class and was willing to volunteer and help. He collected stamps and keychains as a hobby and left behind a large collection of pictures of soccer players. Jojo joined the IDF in early May 1971. After basic training he was assigned to a moving artillery unit and successfully completed various professional courses, and he worked in many fire incidents on the northern border and said that after one of them he received the handshake of the then chief of staff David Elazar On 14.1.1973, Corporal Jojo fell in the line of duty and was put to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya. In a letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “Jojo was an exemplary soldier and always took an active part in battery life, and he was always cheerful and the smile never left his lips.” “A good friend who is willing to help at any moment.”
