Israel, Giora (Iko)
Son of Eugen and Rosalia. He was born on March 5, 1956, in the city of Timisoara, Romania. When he was three years old, he immigrated with his family to Israel. The family settled in Jerusalem, and Giora began to study at the religious state school of Chabad in Ir Ganim and completed his studies at the religious high school in Maaleh, Jerusalem, where Giora was a very sociable, cheerful and brilliant student. During the eighth grade he worked during his vacations and with the money he earned, he bought various electrical appliances for his parents (television and washing machine) to make life easier for them, and was active in various circles, mainly in the department of photography and film. An excellent photographer and his photographs decorate many rooms Giora successfully completed a Gadna commanders’ course, was an apprentice and instructor at the Aerobics Club, He also won the Israel Air Force Championship by flying models, and Giora did not pull his hand from sports, he was particularly successful in long jump and running, and won many medals and medals. Together with his comrades, he established a Nahal group called Wihu Am, which was supposed to go to Kibbutz Nachsholim, near Atlit. Giora completed his high school studies in the real-estate track with honors and until his enlistment worked at the Moriah Hotel. Giora was drafted into the IDF in mid-January 1975, and was joined to the Nahal Brigade. After basic training, he was transferred to serve in Kibbutz Nachsholim. To his surprise, he received a summons for a pilot course and he decided to accept this challenge, but he did not sever his ties with his nuclear friends. Giora was transferred to the air force and began the long and hard road to the wings of the pilot. He had successfully passed all the tests. Despite the difficulties of seeing, he finished most of the course and was on the verge of receiving the wings. On the 28th of Kislev 5737 (28.11.1976), Giora fell in the line of duty and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, leaving behind his parents and brother. The bereaved wrote: “Giora z” l volunteered to serve in the unit, which is the first line of the units which may come to reveal the strong desire of our youth to serve the State of Israel … I wish to note the great desire expressed by Giora in his aspiration to progress and achieve achievements, The bad guys and his Yaffa relations with his friends – lines that characterized his character in the course. ” A memory booklet of the Flight School contains lines in his memory and his image.
