Indig, Yehuda
Yehuda, son of Bluma and Yehoshua, was born on 23.4.1952 in Bruskova, Romania, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1964. He studied at the elementary school in Kfar HaNoar HaDati in Kfar Chasidim and in the vocational high school Havat Hashomer “Near Tiberias. Yehuda was a cheerful and nature-loving child. His family settled in Ra’anana, but Yehuda studied for many years outside the home and from an early age he was an independent, responsible and loving-society boy. He was an athlete and loved mostly basketball and swimming. In addition to these he excelled in chess. Yehuda was drafted into the IDF in September 1970 and assigned to the Artillery Corps. Afterward, he completed a course in R & D and continued to progress during his military service. He reached the rank of sergeant and was awarded the service-operational badge. He was a devoted and caring son, and on holidays he used to help his parents with various crafts at home. After being released from regular service, he worked in the military industry for a few weeks, until the Yom Kippur War broke out. During the Yom Kippur War, Judah took part in the battle against the Syrians on the Golan Heights front. On the 22nd of Tishrei 5740 (October 22, 1973), Yehuda was hit and killed by cannon fire, which was fired at his artillery battery. Before he fell, Yehuda exchanged one of his friends and activated the cannon alone until he was hit. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Ra’anana. Survived by his parents and seven brothers and sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant. His parents donated a Torah scroll and a reading of the Torah in the Adass Yisroel synagogue in Ra’anana; IMI published a list of Yehuda, who was one of the employees of the Military Industries, who fell in the Yom Kippur War.
