Iluz, Jacob


Yaakov, son of Margalit (Yakut) and Eliahu, was born on January 30, 1952. In 1956, his family immigrated to Israel and settled in Netivot, Yaakov was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1970. With his friends in hesder yeshivas, he underwent basic training in the Nahal Brigade and was later assigned to the Armored Corps and successfully completed a tank artillery course. He served in a tank brigade in the Northern Command and in his unit to do much for religious matters. During the difficult days of the Yom Kippur War, he succeeded in keeping his friends strong in his faith and gave them confidence in their strength and ability. On the 8th of Tishrei 5734 (October 8, 1973), in the battle for the village of Nafach in the Golan Heights, Yaakov’s tank was hit and he was killed. He was laid to rest at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, five sisters and four brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
