Ilberg, Michael (Mickey)

Son of Luci and Walter, was born on January 4, 1929 in Hella, Germany. In December 1933, he immigrated to Israel through Youth Aliyah. Michael was first educated at son of-Shemen (1933-1938) and later at the Nes Tziona elementary school in Tel Aviv, where his parents lived. After graduating from elementary school, he studied at the Shalva Gymnasium for a short time, but in the same year he moved to the “Shevach” vocational school and spent three years there. He specialized in the work of frames and regrets, but managed to work for only a quarter of a year, volunteering for the Palmach, and was a member of Hashomer Hatzair and a counselor in the movement and in Gadna. From the age of 17 he was a member of Haganah. He underwent various military training. He joined the Palmach in December 1947. In March 1948, he was sent to a course for commanders in Givat Brenner, and from there on the 29th of that month he left for his first battle, escorting a convoy to Jerusalem. On March 2, 1948, the convoy encountered an ambush near the Arab Hulda, and Michael was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Hulda.
