Hovav, Amishav (Ami)

Hovav, Amishav (Ami)

The only son of Hassia and Meir, who owned a farm in Nahalat Yehuda. He was born on the 11th of Cheshvan 5744 (November 1, 1933) in Nahalat Yehuda. He studied in an elementary school and then continued his studies at the Mikveh Israel agricultural school in order to prepare himself for work on his parents’ farm. He was too young to enlist in military service, but he learned how to use weapons, and when he was a student at Mikvah Israel he took part in guarding the institution and the environment. Loved by his friends, attesting to him that he would share with them whatever he had. During the struggle he was one of the defenders of the Yishuv and the youth working against the British rule. He was very concerned about his family and even on the day of his death he expressed his hope that he would come quickly home and change his father’s name on guard. Amishav was accidentally killed on Wednesday (11.6.1948) by a bullet fired by his friend, who was on his ladder on the water tower in the “Ezra and Bitzaron” housing area, and was brought to rest in the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
