Avraham was drafted into the IDF at the end of August 1972 and assigned to the Nahal Brigade. After completing his basic training, he completed a course for squad commanders, but was unable to complete it, since the Yom Kippur War interrupted the course before it ended. He was a loyal and dedicated soldier, loved by his commanders and friends. Everyone remembers him as a man who excelled in loving others and always offered help to his comrades in arms. In the Yom Kippur War, Avraham participated with his unit in the battles of containment and break-ins against the Egyptians in the Sinai. He was one of the forces breaking into the West Bank of the Suez Canal.
