Horvitz, Aryeh


Aryeh, son of Rivka and Simcha Horvitz, was born on March 15, 1902, in the city of Konska-Wola, Poland. He emigrated to Israel in 1921 and worked in drying up swamps and paving roads. In 1925 he joined the Histadrut, joined the special police, worked as a carpenter, and in 1939, after he became ill, began working at the Mishan Institute. Aryeh was a member of the Haganah since 1942. He was a devoted father to both of his daughters, gave them an excellent education and planted in them a dedication to the country. One of his daughters accompanied convoys to Jerusalem and the other went to guard the extremist positions and authorities of Tel Aviv. He was proud of their participation in the campaign. When the War of Independence broke out, he volunteered for the “Kiryati” Brigade and participated in the battles of Ramle, Lod and Shemer in positions opposite Abu Kabir and the Maccabee neighborhood. One night, while on duty, Aryeh came down with pneumonia. He was brought to the hospital and died on the the 15th of Kislav, December 17th, 1948. Aryeh was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
