Horowitz, Shmuel (Molka)

Was born in the town of Dvinsk, Latvia, to a religious and Zionist family, and was an active member of the Hashomer Hatzair movement in Latvia, where he worked in agricultural training and immigrated to Eretz Israel In 1934 he joined Kibbutz Kfar Giladi and worked in various branches of the agriculture – in the building, as a shepherd, as a tractor operator and fish farmer, temporarily leaving the farm and moving to Tel Aviv, where he worked in construction, Since the 1936-1939 riots. Before the War of Independence, when the induction was announced, he was among the first to report. Shmuel was stationed in the 8th Brigade in a tank unit and also served in other positions. He discovered his readiness for self-sacrifice in many cases, and especially one night when he prevented his brother-in-law from going into battle and came out. Was loved by his commander, Lieutenant Colonel Moshe Dayan. Shmuel fell during Operation Horev on December 28, 1948 during an air strike, while riding in a car in the Wadi Abiad (Nahal Lavan). He was 34 when he died. On the 20th of Tammuz 5709 (20.7.1949), he was laid to rest in the cemetery in Kfar Giladi.
