Horowitz, Moshe
Moshe, the son of Hilda and Kurt, was born on 25.1.1946 in the Ramat Yochanan group. He began his elementary studies at the “Gush Zevulun” school in Ramat Yohanan and finished at the regional elementary school in Tel Mond. He then studied for one year at the Katznelson School in Kfar Sava and completed high school at the Sharon School in Ramat Hasharon. Moshe’s childhood years passed through the Ramat Yochanan group, where he learned about nature and social life. When he was about twelve he moved with his parents to live in Tel Mond, and then moved to Ramat Hasharon, where he completed high school. Everywhere he lived, he had many friends, was quickly absorbed into the class and society and took his place among his peers. Moshe was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early August 1964 and assigned to the Supply Corps, where he served as a non-commissioned officer, serving in active reserve duty after his discharge from regular army service. His friends and commanders in the army, in the regular army and reserve duty, respected Moshe and loved him. He was especially appreciated for his responsible attitude to his role and his recognition of the importance of his role and the need to deal strictly with every detail. After graduating from regular service, he began to study at the School of Practical Engineering in electronics. After completing his studies, he went to study programming and planning for an electronic computer. The first course he took part in was held in Tel Aviv by the Midrasha for the Principal, founded by the Federation of Clerks. He successfully completed the course and was accepted to a course for programmers, held in Jerusalem by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Thanks to his diligence and understanding, Moshe also completed this course with honors and began working in the Ministry of Education and Culture as a computer technician – programmer. As a complement to his studies, he participated in a course in systems analysis in Jerusalem. He was highly respected in his field of expertise, and his progress was rapid. His understanding of the profession helped him serve as a lecturer in a programmer course, held in Jerusalem by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 1972. His last position, which served until the Yom Kippur War, was a senior programmer in a team of methods in data processing units in the Ministry of Education and Culture. In the Yom Kippur War, Moshe participated in battles that were abandoned in Sinai against the Egyptian army. On 18.10.1973, he was injured in the shelling that landed on the bridge, when he was transporting ammunition, to the fighting forces. He was killed and brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents, brother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
