Horowitz, Jacob George
Ben Berta Vino. Born in Hungary on May 8, 1947. He began his elementary studies in Hungary and immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1957. He continued his studies at the elementary school and completed his studies at the Haifa High School. In 1965, he was drafted into the IDF and was assigned to serve in the Ordnance Corps. After completing three years of compulsory service he continued his career in the regular army, underwent professional courses and served as a weapon and a weapons controller. In 1971 he married Rachel and they established their home in Acre, where they raised their two daughters, Liat and Galit. Yaakov was discharged from the IDF at the beginning of 1991, after twenty-six years of continuous service, and was appointed as a disciplined soldier who meticulously fulfilled the instructions of his superiors and was knowledgeable in his field. He received war signals for his participation in the Six-Day War, Yom-Kippur and Peace-Galilee, and the letter of the operational service, during which he fell during his reserve duty on 3 April 1992 and was laid to rest at Beit- Military cemetery in Nahariya. He was forty-five when he fell. Survived by his mother, wife and two daughters. In a letter of condolence to the family, the unit commander wrote: “I would like to note George’s great contribution to the IDF, both on the issue of light weaponry, and in his service as a reservist in the center. He was an active participant in the professional life of the career soldiers and was a member of all of them. In the course of his service, he held several positions and performed them in the best possible way and to the satisfaction of his commanders and friends. “
