Horowitz, Aluf (Lofy)

Son of Zvi and Sattira, was born on the 10th of Nissan, April 2, 1936, in Ramat Hasharon. He absorbed the spirit of the house, that served as the headquarters of the Haganah. At the age of seven, he served as a courier and liaison. He was gifted with intelligence, creative imagination, and a sharp intellect. He studied at the Max Payne, and the Montefiore Professional School. In May 1954, he was drafted into the IDF, and joined the Paratroopers Brigade. He took up his post with great momentum, and was obedient to his commanders. He was loved by his comrades, and became the mainstay of his platoon. On the 7th of Adar, February 28, 1955, he fell with his seven comrades, in a battle with the enemy, at the gates of Gaza. Even in his last moments, his courageous spirit prevailed. According to the testimony of his comrades-in-action, he told his subordinates, “I am finished, you continue!” He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Ramat Hasharon. The family published a booklet, in memory of him, named “Lupi.” The book “Avim”, was published in 1960, by the local council of Ramat Hasharon. The local council set up a playground in his name, and his memory was mentioned in Uri Milstein’s book, “The Paratroop Wars.”
