Hopper, Lipa


Son of Sima and Moshe, was born in the city of Vizhnitz, Bukovina, Romania, where he studied in an elementary school and was interned in a concentration camp, Concentrated by the advancing Russian forces, he returned to his town and was drafted into the Red Army, then 18 years old. In 1945, he was seriously injured in a German bomb attack and was released as a disabled person. Was taken to Haifa on August 1, 1946. He was taken by the British to the detention camp at Atlit, where he sat until the Hagana forces opened the gates of the camp and was released with the rest of the prisoners. After the outbreak of the War of Independence, he enlisted immediately in active service, served in the Alexandroni Brigade and fought in various places until he fell on a bitter battle face-to-face on the way from Zichron Yaakov to Haifa (23.3.1948). Lipa was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Givat Haim.
