Hoover, Chaim

Son of Sarah-Rivka and Shmuel-Yosef was born on December 5, 1923, in Tel Aviv, and his mother died at birth. As a child, he lived and grew up in Kfar Hittim in the Galilee, and later in Kfar Avraham near Petah Tikva. After completing his studies, Chaim worked with his father and brother in the kibbutz. He was good-natured, generous-hearted, strong, a swimmer, read and studied on his own, and even acquired a great deal of knowledge in various scientific fields. Chaim joined the Haganah, excelled in his courage and reached the rank of Lieutenant, and was an active member and instructor of the Hanoar Haoved movement and Hapo’el. After 3 years he had to return to his parents’ home because his older brother was drafted into the Jewish Brigade, and his father could not bear the burden of the farm alone. But after some time, he volunteered for the army’s landing company in the navy, and his comrades spoke of his courage in all the battles he participated in. On July 17-18, 1948, in operation “Death to the Intruder”Chaim fell on the 11th of Tammuz 5708, July 18, 1948, when he went on his own to throw a grenade on a house full of Egyptian soldiers, he was hit from a bullet in the chest and fell. Chaim was buried in a mass grave by the Egyptians. On the 16th of Tishrei 5710 (October 9, 1949) he was transferred to the eternal rest to the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
