Hochman, Yitzhak-Ze’ev (Itzik)
Son of Sima and yaakov was born on February 18, 1926. After graduating from high school, he joined a training group of the “Young Maccabees” in Ramat David as part of the Palmach. In this framework, Itzik served as commander of a platoon in Giv’at Hayim. He was a member of the “Hasolelim” group. Itzik had a vision of collective settlement and labor. He served in the Yiftah Brigade with the outbreak of fighting in the Upper Galilee, was transferred to the company as a company commander, and shortly thereafter became deputy commander of the battalion. Itzik managed the attack on Zuk, defended Lehavot Habashan, and Giv’at Halsa when the convoy passed to Amir. His company lost its best men in the first attack on Nabi Yosha, that failed. This event affected him greatly. In his trip to Safed, to be one of the commanders of the battle for the liberation of the city, he undertook one of the most difficult tasks – the conquest of the municipal police. Itzik was killed on Rosh Chodesh Iyar, May 10, 1948, when he conquered metsudat David. Yitzhak-Ze’ev was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Safed.
