Hochman, Ron (Ronnie)
Son of Yair and Mina. He was born on December 16, 1954 in Givatayim. Here he spent his early childhood years. He was an active and curious child, interested in everything around him and especially interested in various mechanical devices. When he was in first grade, the family moved to Herzliya, and Roni visited the Weizmann elementary school. At an early age, his eagerness to read books became evident, and the workers at the library were visited every day. Roni spent his leisure time in the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement, and in the framework of which he made frequent trips and participated in labor camps. Developed an affection for animals. When he reached the age of 15, he was caught in a great love for the sea. Joined the Zevulun Marine Society in Herzliya. The sea cruise in the 420 boat made him immensely delightful. He underwent courses in the seamanship profession and during the course of time he received training in the local branch. He later took part in a voyage to Cyprus, organized by Hapoel. After studying for two years at the Herzliya Municipal High School, Roni realized that his Lev was actually for agricultural work. He enrolled in the boarding school of the agricultural high school in Pardes Hanna. Here, among the new friends, his characteristic traits-honesty, kindness and kindness, combined with his charming smile-helped him penetrate the long-established society. He was becoming more and more occupied with his new vocation – agriculture – and planned to study, in due course, the Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot and settle in the village. Roni successfully passed his matriculation exams, and then managed to take a trip to Eilat and its surroundings, and he found himself in the IDF’s “absorption.” It was August 1973, and no one had yet guessed what dread the state would expect in the near future, He did not grumble and caught up with his parents with his enthusiasm and pride for the soldier, but he just finished the shooting, and when the Yom Kippur War broke out, the first days of the war ended, After all, Roni was transferred to the Canal Zone, where his unit was sent to an enclave in the Golan Heights, which was constantly shelled by Syrian artillery. One of his fellow soldiers was hit by a lethal fire, Roni rushed to save him, and then died along with his friend, and fell in the line of duty on 9 May 1974. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and sister.
