Hirschler (Eli), Peretz
Son of Esther and Yehuda. He was born on July 12, 1920 in Eisenstadt, Austria. He grew up in an educated and observant home, in which Torah and Derech Eretz were observed together. In 1939, after graduating from high school, he immigrated to Israel on an illegal immigration ship. In Israel he studied for two years at the Mikveh Israel agricultural school, and at the time was also a member of the Haganah. After completing his studies he enlisted in the Palmach and joined a moshavim settlement group, and was discharged from service in the Palmach and worked for a period of time in Shavei Zion. After the first echoes of the Holocaust began in Europe, he enlisted in the British army and in 1943 he joined the ranks of the Jewish Brigade. On the 19th of Kislev 5706 (November 24, 1945), while walking in the former Jewish quarter of Vienna to investigate the fate of Jews, the relatives of his friends, he was run over by a Soviet command vehicle. He was laid to rest at the British military cemetery in Klagenfurt, Austria.
