Hirschfeld, Ezra


Son of Margarete and Kurt, was born on 19.4.1930 in Berlin, the capital of Germany. When he was five, he immigrated to Israel with his parents. He began studying at the elementary school in Pardes Hannah and continued his studies at the educational institution of Hashomer Hatzair in Mishmar Ha’emek and Kibbutz Beit Zera. His first career in the Haganah was during his time in the Mishmar Haemek educational institution. Was one of the youths who participated during the British Mandate in “Aliyah to Biriya”. He loved sports and was a member of “Hapoel” and showed great fitness in light athletics. In the competition in Petach Tikvah, the first to participate in it, he won first place in three subjects. From his childhood he aspired to be a journalist, and after graduating he decided to fulfill his ambition and left his group, Eshel, at Beit Zera. When he arrived in Tel Aviv, the Mishmar newspaper was received. After a short while, he proved his great ability at work and with the expansion of the newspaper and its transformation into Al Hamishmar, served as a reporter. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he wrote in the section “In Defense Service” signed by E. Ezer. With the worsening of the war in Israel, he joined the army. He was active in the field of culture, wrote philithons and composed his company song, one of the companies in the Givati ​​Brigade. Participated as a machine gunner in action to remove the siege of Kibbutz Gat in the Faluja area. In the attack on Iraq al-Manshiya, he was wounded in the hand and taken out of the line of fire. On the way to Gat he was hit again, and two days later, on 28 July 1948, died of his wounds. Ezra was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Pardes Hannah.
