Hirschdorfer, Reuven

Reuven, son of Batsheva and Menahem, was born on 24 December 1953 in Jaffa. He studied at the Hamanhil Elementary School in Ramat Gan and at the ORT vocational school in Holon. ReuSon of was a cheerful, life-loving boy and very beloved to his teachers and friends. He liked sports, watched soccer games and was active in the Gadna in his school, and he liked to travel in Israel, and Reuven was recruited to the IDF in early February 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After completing basic training, he completed a series of courses and was finally stationed in the unit as a staff member in the Patton tank. In his unit, Reuven distinguished himself as a good and devoted soldier, who willingly filled all the positions assigned to him and was always ready to help his friends. In the Yom Kippur War, Reuven was in a tank unit stationed in the central section of the canal. On the first day of the war, on October 6, 1973, his unit went into battle and encountered an anti-tank ambush of the Egyptians on the “Lexicon” axis, near Maoz Fortress. In the battle that took place, Reuven was injured and killed by a direct hit on his tank. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and brother. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In an assessment of Reuven’s personality, his commander wrote that Reuven was an excellent soldier and a loyal friend, and that he stuck to his mission by showing courage and recognition of the mission he had served in his military service.
