Hirsch, Gabriel (“Gabi”)


Gabriel, son of Robert-Joshua and Shoshana Hirsch, was born on November 19, 1937 in the city of Lucknowelde, Germany. The family immigrated to Israel in 1938 and his father was among the pioneers of the metal industry in Israel. He was drafted into the IDF in August 1955 and gave his regular service as a Nahal soldier at Tel Katzir and later went on reserve duty. In the middle of May 1967, during the days of alert before the Six-Day War, he was called back for reserve duty and served until he fell on the fifth day of the battles, on the 9th of June 1967. Gabriel was buried at the military cemetery in Afula and was later transferred to the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
