Hirsch, Eliezer
Son of Paula and Nathan, was born on the 27th of Kislav, December 10, 1928 in the city of Tarnovo, Romania. As a youth, he joined the Dror-Habonim youth movement and was fond of Eretz Israel. His aspiration to immigrate to Israel was photographed in front of the map of Israel: “In this land I want to live, and I am prepared to fight against it until the last drop of blood.” In May 1946, Eliezer immigrated with his brother to Israel on a ship called “Max Nordau” . On November 29, 1947, he and his brothers joined one of the Palmach regiments. Eliezer took part in the battles in Jenin and Tzuba and was later transferred to the Latrun sector and worked with his brother as a machine-gun team. In the bitter battles Eliezer displayed courage and coolness. On the 10th of Tamuz, July 17, 1948, he was wounded in the leg. His brother bandaged his wound he sent him back to the machine gun, because there were few machine guns that were not hit. Eliezer retreated with the men of the company, and was considered missing until it became clear that he had fallen. On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950), he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
