Hinkis, Zvi-Aryeh


Son of Deborah and Yehoshua, was born on 23 January 1927 in Tel Aviv and lived with his family in Givatayim (Tel-Yehuda) and was educated in the spirit of tradition and dedication to the people. Aryeh graduated from elementary school and went to work to help his parents earn a living in the profession of plastering, and devoted all his time to the Haganah and was active in transporting weapons and hiding him in various places in the country. During the period of the struggle, he joined the Palmach and joined an enlisted hachshara. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he was attached to a combat unit in the Jerusalem Brigade and participated in many battles on the way to Jerusalem. During Operation Nachshon, he was one of the defenders of the Castel, who was constantly attacked by the Arab forces. On April 8, after the fall of their leader ‘Abd al-Qader al-Husseini, the Arabs carried out a heavy attack and conquered the site. During the difficult retreat, he fell on the 27th of Adar 5748 (7.4.1948). He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rehovot.
