Hezi, Shimon
Son of Jonah and Aaron. Born in 1922 in Sana’a, Yemen. In 1942 he immigrated to Israel and a year later his family joined him. At that time, Shimon served as a guard and this position lasted for two years, most of the time at Atlit. He then resigned from the police and joined the Irgun Zvai Leumi. Because of his activity in the underground, his visits to his parents’ home were quite rare, and the secret of his belonging to her ranks also was kept from them. On its behalf, he was later sent to join the British army. On 29 Av, August 15, 1947, Shimon served as a guard in the Tel Hashomer camp (then Tel Litvinsky). A gang of Arab rioters in a nearby orchard approached the camp and opened fire at them. During this encounter, Shimon was injured and killed. He was buried in the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery. He was twenty-five when he died. He left parents, four sisters and three brothers.
