In his letter to the family, Avner said, “Avner served as a combat medic in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon, thus fulfilling his dream of giving himself to others and contributing everything possible.” Avner joined the other fighters on their way to Beaufort, He gave medical help to the fighters and assisted in the holy work of saving lives, Avner’s commanders described him as a modest and professional man, and his friends longed for his laughter, the joy of life, and the optimism that characterized him. , As he did many times – and could not. ” Avner was killed in a battle in Lebanon during his duty as combat medic on March 19, 1997. An anti-tank missile hit an IDF force traveling in the Beaufort sector, killing Avner and wounding three others. He was buried at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem and was survived by his parents, sister and three brothers, and Avner Kfir’s grandfather, Avraham, also a fallen IDF soldier, fell in 1942 Givat Shaul in Jerusalem. On his gravestone, the family added the personal caption: “Ben, brother, David, exemplary friend, the symbol of the commandments in action, in our hearts forever.” Chief of Staff Amnon Lipkin-Shahak wrote to the family: “Avner served as a combat medic in the Hiram formation of the Northern Command, and was described by his commanders as a responsible and disciplined soldier who fulfilled his duty with infinite devotion.
