Hevroni (Halili), Yosef
Son of Aziza and Yitzhak, was born on February 27, 1926 in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. He studied at the Kol Israel Haverim school in Beirut and immigrated with his parents to Israel in 1934. In Israel he began to work and bore the burden of supporting the family. The harsh conditions of his life gave him great respect and great responsibility for his actions. He was active in the Haganah from the age of 15. In 1942 he joined the Haganah, underwent basic training and received the rank of commander-in-chief. At the end of the Second World War he was a guide in the Haganah and many of his pupils participated in defending the country and Joseph’s influence was crucial to their development and dedication to the homeland. Joseph was clean, orderly, meticulous in his externality and speech, and a fine example of his subordinates. He often planned for his future and arranged his house, which he was about to establish after his marriage with his choice of Lev. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he enlisted, served in the “Kiryati” Brigade and in its ranks fought within the borders of Tel Aviv, then in the battles of Abu Kabir, Salameh, Beit Dagon and Safia. He was among the defenders of the Sarafand camp during the enemy’s attack on him and in this battle he fell on Wednesday, June 11, 1948. He was excelled in the words of his commander in his heroism and was brought to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak, .
