Hershman, Aharon (Aharale)


Aharon (Aharale), son of Batya and Yosef, a Holocaust survivor, was born on 13 June 1953 in Ramat Gan, where he studied at the Hasmonean elementary school in Ramat Gan. Aharon was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1971 and assigned to the Engineering Corps, where he completed a basic training course in the Patton tank and was a loyal member of his team. In the Yom Kippur War, Aharon participated in the battles of containment and break-ins against the Egyptians on the Sinai front, and on October 16, 1973, Aaron fell in battle on Tzir Akabish. He was the commander of a bulldozer tank who took part in breaking a path to the vessel. A shoulder-fired missile hit his tank, the tank went up in flames and Aharon was killed on the spot. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He was survived by a father, mother and brother. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Aharon was an excellent tank commander, very devoted, and his commanders and subordinates loved him and admired him, and he was very talented in many fields. His parents published a book in his memory that included things about his way and his character, memoirs, poems, letters and photographs.
