Hershkowitz, Moshe-Arieh


Son of Berta and Anshel, was born on 23.12.1923 in the city of Nirdhez, Hungary, to parents of pious parents who wanted him to continue his yeshiva studies after graduating from the elementary school, while he wanted to make a living from his work. When he finished eight grades of the elementary school, he became an apprentice at a carpenter’s furniture. He went to Budapest, studied in his profession, and worked there until the Nazis came. In the labor camp to which terrible suffering was deported, but saved from death. He left the period of servitude and the pressure was weak and depressed. At first he returned to Hungary and dealt in transporting goods. When he recovered he took the path of the Redeemers. He boarded the Henrietta Szold ship in 1947, and spent half a year in a detention camp in Cyprus. When he came to Israel he accepted the first draft call. He was drafted into the Hagai Brigade and later served in the Givati ​​Brigade, participated in Operation Chametz to encircle Jaffa, attacked Latrun, and the battles of the brigade to stop the Egyptians in the south. (19.10.1948) was brought to rest in the military cemetery in the village of Warburg.
