In January 1993, Karni was drafted into the IDF and served as a cook and kashrut supervisor in the UN liaison unit on the Golan Heights, and his commanders said that he was a devoted soldier, He was buried at the Segula military cemetery in Petach Tikvah and was survived by his parents, two brothers, Asher and Arik and two sisters – Kalia and Tzipi – at his grave, Lt. Colonel Amir Mokady, commander of the UN Liaison Unit, said: “Everyone who came to our camp in the Golan Heights knew Karni, It is a name not only among the members of the unit, but among the UN personnel with whom we work and even among the neighboring units. We’ll miss you, Karni. We salute a friend who is not. “His family commemorated him in a Torah library that was put into the Darchei Noam synagogue in Petah Tikva.
