Hermetz, Issachar


Issachar (Yashke), son of Esther and Abraham, was born on 21.1.1950 in Menahemiah. A year later, his mother and father, who was a member of the Jewish Brigade, moved to Kfar Avigdor in the south, and the boy was educated in the local kindergarten. When the family moved to Rehovot, Issachar studied at the Sprinzak elementary school in the city. After completing his elementary studies, he decided to attend the military boarding school, took the entrance examinations, and studied for four years at the Biram Military Academy near the Reali School in Haifa. Yashke was an outstanding student, a lively and self-confident boy. Even before he received a positive response from the military boarding school, he informed his parents that he had been accepted into the institution. When asked: “How do you know?” – replied: “I am sure of it.” Indeed, he was blessed with a series of excellent qualities. He was a handsome boy, tall and sturdy, with blue eyes and brown hair. His friends appreciated his kindness, his willingness to help others, his human intelligence. He was alert, full of life and loved pranks. At a young age he joined the united movement and was one of the most prominent activists. Issachar loved literature and classical music. He also followed technological innovations, devoted many hours to reading history and geography, and made trips and trips around the country. His entire being radiated warmth and joy of life. Yissachar was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early August 1968. During his army service, he completed a number of courses, including the Armored Officers Course and the Armored Corps Course and advanced Armored Corps course. He was not an architect of a good life, solid and healthy, he did not like and did not excel in battle books and in drawing orders, but every arrow he fired was sent to the Lev of the enemy, The aggressor and the faith, always charged forward with all his weight, with his full dynamic personality: “There is no choice, He used to say, “If there is a need to attack, then first of all, I am above all.” His commanders appreciated Yashke as an excellent and dedicated commander, and as a person who was always attentive to every request and distress. In the IDF, in August 1970, continued to serve in the permanent army. In November 1972 he married his girlfriend, Tzila. In the Yom Kippur War, Issachar took part in the difficult battles in the Golan Heights in the role of brigade brigade commander on October 8, 1973. He heard on the radio that the half-track of our forces encountered an ambush by Syrians and he called for urgent help. Yissachar volunteered to help him, boarded a tank, and drove to the half-track to rescue his trapped fighters.In the exchange of fire his tank was hit and he was killed, and he was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, then-Defense Minister Moshe Dayan spoke about Yissachar’s achievements in the IDF and concluded: “His commanders defined him as an officer Has good professional knowledge, dedicated, efficient and beloved. ” In the course of the Yom Kippur War, Brigadier General Avigdor son of-Gal praised Yissachar Harmatz for “discovering the spirit of volunteerism, courage and brotherhood of warriors.” His parents and the wife of Issachar and his friends published a pamphlet in his memory, The city of Rehovot commemorates his name, and he is on the sports field of the “Sprinzak” school.
