Hermelin, David
David, son of Leah and Chaim, was born on February 3, 1954 in Safed, where he studied at the “Beit Chinuch” elementary school and the “Amal” vocational school in Safed and at the Naval Electronics School. David was a member of the youth movement “Hapoel” in Safed, soccer and basketball, and was active in the Beit Gideon Youth Club in his hometown David was drafted into the IDF in the middle of May 1972 And was assigned to the Armored Corps. After basic training, he underwent a course for tank drivers and later underwent a combat paramedics course. In the Yom Kippur War, David was a combat medic in an armored unit that fought in the battles in the northern Golan Heights. He devoted his duties to the treatment, rescue and evacuation of the wounded in battle, and because of his eagerness to return to the battlefield, did not even visit his home in Safed when he evacuated a wounded helicopter to the hospital in his hometown. On the third day of the war, David was lightly wounded by shrapnel, but immediately after he was bandaged, he slipped back into his unit and went out with the doctor and medical staff to treat the wounded. On the 17th of Tishrei 5734 (October 13, 1973), during the IDF counter-attack near Trangje, on the way to the Beit-Jan grove, David was injured while helping the wounded. He was brought to eternal rest in the Safed cemetery and left behind his parents, brother and sister, and was raised to the rank of sergeant after his fall, and his parents donated a Torah scroll to a synagogue in Safed.
