Herbachek, Dov

He was born in 1923 in Vienna, the capital of Austria, where he grew up and studied in an elementary school. There was no information about his parents’ house and the years of his childhood, because the man was alone in the group, withdrawn into himself, although he was loyal to every job in the agriculture and loyal to duty and friends and willing to help others. Since the Nazi takeover of Vienna, he had suffered a great deal as a Jewish youth, and perhaps even earlier, and used to gnash his teeth and conceal his own pain so that his enemies would not be Simcha to see their victory. This seclusion was also characteristic of his arrival in Palestine in 1939 and his integration into a friendly environment of a youth group in the hachshara. Dov, along with his group, underwent all the training in various places in the country until they reached the plot in the Hadassah group in Gezer. Where he spent all his energies on the farm. When the War of Independence broke out, he also gave his part in defending the place. Gezer was located near the Ramle-Latrun road. The legion forces in the area saw it as a threat and sought to conquer it in anticipation of the approaching truce. On Tuesday, June 10, 1948, an enemy force, consisting of a Legion Company, organized irregular and armored forces, attacked the kibbutz, and the enemy’s heavy fire destroyed the defensive positions and paralyzed any possibility of organized resistance. He was brought to rest in the cemetery in Gezer.
