Heller, Avraham-Yitzhak


Son of Esther and Feibish, was born on the 18th of Heshvon, October 26, 1926 in the city of Iasi, Romania to wealthy parents. He studied at Yeshivah and excelled in his studies. In high school Avraham-Yitzhak joined the Bnei Akiva movement and served as a counselor. During the Second World War he was active in organizing and training young people. Avraham-Yitzhak immigrated to Israel on October 24, 1945, and in November of that year he joined the “Mechora” group and then moved to Kfar Etzion and found his home there. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he stood with his comrades in battle. His parents were about to come to Israel and asked him to leave the group and come to their aid, but he explained to them his national duty during and did not abandon his place. He did not get to see his parents who arrived shortly before his death. Avraham-Yitzhak fell in the fall of Kfar Etzion on the 4th of Iyar 5708 (13.5.1948) and was laid to rest at the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem on 25 Heshvon, 17.11.1949
